WEEK EIGHT BLOG ENTRY
This week, I want you to imagine that you could switch places with anyone in the world of fact or fiction--for one year you will live as that person. Fact or fiction! Past, present, or future. You could choose to be anyone from Edgar Allen Poe to Professor Snape, Einstein to Frida Kahlo, the Prophet Abraham to Winnie the Pooh.
The only catch is that you have justify your choice. Why did you choose to become that person(or animal, I suppose)?
GREETINGS AND BASIC COURSE INFO
!!!!NO MEETING THIS SATURDAY!!!! (we will meet later in the semester)
EMAIL: bschmoll@csub.edu
Greetings,
This course has some weekly assignments that you must keep up on. There are also a few other papers and books to read throughout the semester. But if you keep up with the weekly assignments on here, your writing will improve and you will put yourself in a great position to do well in this class!
These are time sensitive. You do not receive credit if you write them after the deadline(Saturday) each week. Furthermore, if you are in the habit of writing everything on Saturday you will not receive full credit. Why? There would be no time for others to interact with your writing. Write early; write often! Right? Right!
HERE IS THE WORK THAT MUST BE COMPLETED EACH WEEK...
FIRST, there's a blog entry (about 250 words) which will have you respond to a hopefully thought-provoking question. Each week, you must do the blog entry with enough time left in the week to be able to enter into dialogue online with your classmates. Write, reply, write more, reply more, and then write and reply more.
SECOND, there's a reading. There’s no blog entry associated with this. Just read.
THIRD, there's a written response to the reading. Your reading and writing on the blog must be completed by the SATURDAY (by midnight) of the week in which the reading falls. This entry should be a long paragraph. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESPOND TO OTHER STUDENTS IN PART THREE EACH WEEK.
If I were to be someone else for a year, well that’s a hard question to answer to be honest. As a child I always wanted to be a superhero like, Superman or like Batman I wanted to be a hero and help save the world from any type of danger. In reality anyone can be a superhero you don’t need powers or a cape to define you as a superhero, but my ideal superhero would be Superman I would trade places and be him for a whole year. I think it would be ideal to become Superman because he believes in justice, he believes that everyone deserves a second chance, and he also believes that no matter what you should always believe in yourself. One thing I admire about this character is that he does anything in his power to safe anything and anyone no matter the cost and I want to be a hero and save the world from danger and still be able to maintain a full time job. I’m talking about this character as if it was real but that’s my childhood and I always grew up wanting to be him and protect my family and the world at any cost. For the most part I wanted to become him because he got to fly and I wanted to fly and avoid traffic and near have that excuse of being late because I got stuck in traffic. I know most would say why a superhero, in would say why not?
ReplyDeleteJoaquin, I literally LOL when I read "I wanted to fly and avoid traffic". But in all seriousness, that would be pretty awesome!
DeleteWhat would be the first thing you'd do as Superman?
Viridiana HA! for reals HA! honestly I would watch over the city and make sure all the citizens are well protected and safe so if any danger comes lurking around ill be there to protect anyone at any cost, but to be funny ill just fly around to scare people HA!
DeleteJoaquin,
DeleteGreat choice I think superman is one of the best super heroes out there! and your paint of flying to places to avoid traffic and get there faster is brilliant! I think that would be a reason for to switch with superman for a whole year! no more waking up extra early
Hey Joaquin, that flying part sure sounds nice! lol but yes I think superman is the perfect superhero to be, he was the only superhero that made sense and had the greatest story behind his character.
DeleteYes, Deisy I totally agreed with the flying thing and who doesn't want to avoid traffic especially if you're from LA like me HA!
DeleteYes, Ariana the flying thing is the best thing you can do especially if you hate being stuck in traffic which hate and coming from a guy that is from LA you really don't have to think about it twice and chose the flying powers HA!
DeleteHi Joaquin, Are you sure its not the x-ray vision that you are after? That would be at the top of my list. It would surely give a boost to my business, and lower my overhead costs. I agree with flying over traffic though. My black hair might return, I wish!
DeleteAlbion, HA! it might have something to do with the x-ray vision as well but for the most part avoiding the traffic.
DeleteJoaquin,
DeleteThis was very good. I still till this day watch and read comics for Batman and Superman. I even dressed up as them both a couple times for Halloween. They were the two superheroes that I felt really existed for some reason. They made everything better every time I would watch cartoons and stuff on them.
If I could be someone else for a year it would be Paul Walker before he tragically passed away. My reasoning behind him of all people is very simple: he was a well respected man that was very humble and caring for any and every single person. He was a very good actor and was known for many movies but he didn't let it get to his head. He wasn't on cloud nine like a lot of celebrities are. He created charity foundations and always tried to make an impact in people's lives. I remember watching an interview with him and he said that whenever someone stopped him and called him Brian (Fast and the Furious reference) he would make it his obligation to stop and talk to the fan for a minute because of the appreciation he has for all of his fans. Paul's car collection is very exquisite and contains a few VERY rare cars in pristine condition. This reason is a no brainer because I am an avid car enthusiast.
ReplyDeleteI love him. He was very talented, he was a great actor. And I'm not going to discuss his looks, I'm just going to say that he was super handsome. Which one was your favorite movie?
DeleteI thought he was one of the best actors and overall one of the best people in todays day of age. He was a real humble and fun actor. It sucks that we are not going to be able to see him in any movie anymore
DeleteGood choice, I second that one Devon.
DeleteDevon,
DeletePaul Walker is definitely a great choice, very talented but very unfortunate that he had to pass away so young! Definitely lost an amazing humble human being and actor.
RIP to the great Walker and good choice!
DeleteI love your choice, he was definitely a great role model and a kind hearted person.
Deleteone person flying over cars and one person driving rare ones! So far quiet car oriented! great start, people!
ReplyDeleteI love the person you chose Devon I do agree with you when you stated that he was a well respected human being and he was, he was a very generous person and never asked anything in return he was a great person in front and behind the cameras.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many real people and fictional characters I'd like to be, for reasons as many as there are people to choose from. It's hard to narrow it down to one, but I choose Teddy Roosevelt because of his overcoming many obstacles long before he became president, for starters. He had a life filled with events and accomplishments stories are made of. During childhood, he had health problems that would have limited the activity of most anyone else, and he was advised to do the same. Roosevelt instead chose a very active lifestyle to defeat his asthmatic/bronchial illness. He was very active while attending Harvard, involved in many extracurricular activities before graduating with honors. Roosevelt also traveled to the Amazon on expedition, served in the Navy, where he eventually served as Naval Secretary. His hobbies were many but among them are boxing, judo, and reading at least 2 or 3 books a day. Roosevelt also wrote nautical tactics book while at Harvard that the navy later adopted for its use in training and reference. It still uses it to this day. Roosevelt was responsible for the construction of the Panama Canal, among other things that set the United States up strategically and economically for many decades after it happened. I didn’t even mention his adventures, and his days with the Rough Riders, or his days leading up to his very impactful and historic presidency. With a life like that I couldn’t see why I’d need to choose a fictional character when his life was not only interesting, but it happened, too!! I would gladly be honored to live a year as Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt, “Bully!”.
ReplyDeleteInteresting the fact that you mention more things about him before becoming president, then during or after. Very educational post.
DeleteThank you, Marisol. I have read and seen numerous biography's about his life, and was always fascinated by how much he did and accomplished.
DeleteI do believe that people with any physical or mental incapacity can overcome many obstacles during the road. They deserve more recognition and assistance from society. Instead, many of us are part of the obstacles when we decide to look to different directions.
DeleteI agree, Marisol, the biggest obstacle can be yourself many times. The U.S. and other Westernized Nations have been better in accommodating accepting accepting of those that are challenged the past decades, in comparison to other nations.
DeleteThere are many different characters/people that come to mind with whom I would want to switch with for a day. The one that intrigues me the most would have to be Rick from the tv show The Walking Dead. Although yes being in the middle of a zombie apocalypse is not the ideal situation, but as a kid you always fantasized what would happen if you were in one. As a kid I would make up all these impossible situations in my head that could never happen, but switching with Rick would make one of these come true. The Walking Dead is my favorite show so I would know how to make my way around things just by experiece watching the show, but it would be cool to be able to kill the walkers. Although getting bitten and dieing may not be so fun. I feel as if switching with Rick would be a fun and at the same time a crazy experience.
ReplyDeleteI think it would really interesting to be in a zombie apocalypse. Not maybe because it'll be fun but rather I wonder how I would do in regards of survival. This is definitely thought provoking.
DeleteHey Christian, the good thing about this assignment is that we can let our imagination go as far as we wish. If you want to be a zombie, so be it.
DeleteChristian,
DeleteYou wrote a nice post. This is because you clearly stated, why you picked Rick from the Walking Dead. I once visited Universal Studios this past July, and experienced the creepy walkers (in the Walking Dead exhibition). I saw a creepy walker approach me, and I said, “Hey”. This experience was scary and humorous at the same time. I am so intrigued by the Walking Dead, and the Vampire Diaries. This is because these stories are so spooky like a mystery. If you visit the Walking Dead exhibition in Universal Studios Hollywood, you will know how scary the walkers are. You can even yell at them, if you are extremely frightened. This is exactly like being with the character Rick. This is because you make the situation real and try to use defense mechanisms (fighting, yelling, and sneaking at quick speed). Your post was good, because I can easily relate to your situation.

If I could be anyone I would choose to be the character from Limitless. This character was given a new breakthrough pill that enhances the brain performance capacity.
ReplyDeleteThe pill, (NZT), provides perfect memory recall and enhanced physical ability. This enables one to be able to excel in whatever the person on it decides to focus on. One could learn many languages in a very small amount of time or could be a master at karate from recalling watching a martial arts tournament on television. I think that would be a great because I would try to learn as much information as I wanted at a super-human pace.
I would focus first on getting higher education. This would be great because when I go and attempt to help with worldwide issues I have validity. I feel more people are to believe the Dr. in the room compared to the Uber driver in the room. I could basically attempt to create something greater than myself for the future and help aid the present gross crises.
Hi Daniel,
DeleteGood choice of character! Enhancing the brain's memory capacity can be very beneficial for many things. Our memory usage is essential for every day life, if it is enhance through a some sorta of super power, learning can be so much more fun.
Hey Daniel! Limitless is awesome! I wanted to pick that character as well. The idea of being able to utilize the full capacity of your brain sounds exciting. I like what you would want to do with those powers.

ReplyDeleteIf I had the option to choose to be anyone in the world I wanted to be for a year, I would choose to be Frida Kahlo. Frida has always inspired me for any reasons. Despite the fact Frida struggled and suffered throughout her whole life, she still managed to maintain positivity. She wore her pain, and cherished it as if it was normal to have suffered so much in life. I think that is what I love most about her, we as individuals today complain about the smallest struggles we go through. Sometimes we don’t even realize how blessed and lucky we are to be alive. Not only did Frida maintain positivity in her life, she actually inspired others through her artwork. My favorite self-portrait about her is The Broken Column. This self-portrait of Frida has doves in her pupils as a symbol of peace on pain and suffering after having surgery. One of her famous quotes that I completely love is “Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?” Such quote makes me realize how inspiration Frida was. She lost her walking ability and still managed to move on in life. I think I would lose my mental stability if I were unable to walk. However, Frida is the proof that one is still capable of moving on in life and learning throughout the process. Her individuality was also very captivating. She did not care if her artwork or her personality was bizarre. She was acceptable in the fact that everyone is entitled to being who they want to be in life. Above all, I would love be Frida Kahlo for one year to be able to have the strength as a woman to empower many other women into believing in themselves.
Hi Melissa,
DeleteTo me, Frida is an indescribable, controversial person. A very strong woman who went throughout a lot during her life. I like the quote that you chose. The one I like the most says: “I tried to drown my sorrows, but they learned to swim”.
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteHi Melissa,
DeleteExcellent choice, Frida Khalo is the definition of a strong perseverant woman and she has impacted us in many different ways, I definitely look up to her and I mean who wouldn't want to be her after all she has done right? Great choice
Hey Melissa,
DeleteThis choice is a good one and I would also like to be her to have that incredible strength she had in herself to inspire many women that they should never lose hope.
- Love your post, for she is also the person I chose I would like to be for a year. Frida was a badass all around! :)
DeleteIf I could switch places with anyone in the world of fact or fiction for one year I would choose to switch with Ellen DeGeneres. I would like to switch places with her simply because of who she is as a person and how she inspires people through her show. Another reason would be because who wouldn't want their own show right? Not only does she have her own show but she also uses it as a way to connect to her audience and bring happiness to people with her humor and giveaways. I can only imagine how fun it would be to have a job that requires you to just be yourself and inspire others and make them laugh. Perhaps the thing that I like the most about Ellen is how humble she is. All the fame and all the money don't change the way she is towards people, she is always looking to bring people to her show, regular people who have done something extraordinary and then she compensates them with whatever they need. She is always looking for ways to be able to help those who most need it and give opportunities for people to show their talents. Once again, it would be the funnest year of my life getting to be Ellen, having my own show and making people's day, I personally like to see people happy and I love making people laugh and I love when people compliment me for being charismatic. I feel like Ellen is one of the few people on TV who actually shows her true self and also shows us the true colors of many artists, for all these reasons I definitely wouldn't mind getting to be Ellen DeGeneres for a year!
ReplyDeleteI love Ellen! I hope I can get the chance to go to her show one day. Being her for a year would definitely be fun!
DeleteHi Chelsea! I would love to be able to go to her show one day, she's such amazing human being that is exactly why I chose to switch with her!
DeleteEllen seems like a great woman. She's funny and humble. I love how she's always allowing others to show their talents and also helps people in need.
DeleteDeisy,
DeleteYou wrote a good post. This is because you clearly stated the truth and good statements about Ellen DeGeneres. I noticed that people get to sell themselves, be who they really are, and show their sense of humor (while they are on her show). People can also sing songs, tell jokes, dance, and speak their own mind (regarding certain opinions). She has interviewed so many people like Robert Pattinson, Zac Efron, David Archuleta, and so many other actors, singers, and comedians. I used to watch her show, and find a lot of funny moments. Ms. DeGeneres is so relaxed, and her job is so fun. I noticed that laughter can cure people’s illnesses (like cancer), by increasing their immunity. She kind of reminds me of David Archuleta (who is a good singer, a person with a great sense of humor, and an innocent human being). Another example is Jerry Seinfeld; since Mr. Seinfeld makes people laugh and shows who he really is (he invents funny jokes, based on his inspiration/heart). Overall, you did a nice job writing your paragraph. Your posting was really enjoyable, for me and the other readers of this post.
Roshaan S.
Brianna,
DeleteExactly! We need more celebrities like Ellen!!
Roshaan!
DeleteI really appreciate all the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed and were able to identify with it, I chose Ellen because of all the traits you described and more, I wish more celebrities learned from her and became more kind-hearted and humble because we need more people like Ellen on TV
- Beautiful post, Deisy. Ellen is one Of the best humanitarians to live.
DeleteHi Daisy,
ReplyDeleteI like your choice of person. I agree with you, being Ellen for a year could be wonderful. She is an extraordinary human who has done many good acts for others. I think you would have a blast being her for a year!
Hi Melissa! and yes definitely, she is amazing and I'm sure it would be a memorable year!
DeleteHey Deisy. Being Ellen sounds fun! She is such an intelligent, kind-hearted, and witty person.
DeleteYang,
DeleteI completely agree, her personality and kind-hearted deeds definitely make her a wonderful person, I hope one day I get to go to her show and experience all of that in person not through a screen!
I love Ellen!! I would defiantly want to be her for a year also if I could!! My daughter and myself watcher her show everyday. What an awesome feeling it would be just to experience the opportunity of blessing people the way she does. How fun it would be to spend my days spreading joy and laughter. I would love to meet and talk to all the different people she does!! I would never want to go back to being me!!
DeleteJaime,
DeleteThat is awesome! the fact that you can sit there and watch a show with your daughter is great, and yes I wouldn't want to return to my regular life after getting to be Ellen for an entire year!!
I’m always saying to my kids that on my future life, I want to re-incarnate as a fish. They are just there, floating around. But that’s for the future. From the present or past, I would like to live one year in Madonna’s shoes. It can be any time between the 1980s and 1990s. That is the time frame when she became famous for her music and popular videos. Madonna wrote and produced most of her songs. Her performance was different than what people was used to. She created her own style and personality, and soon, people from all over the world knew about her. People singed and danced to her songs, dressed like her, and acted like her. I was on my teen years when I started listening to her songs such as: “Papa don’t Preach”, “Like a Virgen”, “Music”. This happened while I was still living in Mexico. People there are more conservatives, and have more traditional values. To them, Madonna was a bad influence to newer generations. They stated that the content of the lyrics was rebellious, that her outfits induce little girls to go against society’s values. To me, she was like a Goddess, she was the most amazing singer I had ever listened to. I loved her, and I still do. I would like to be Madonna during that time, because it is when she becomes famous, when she starts making millions of dollars, and starts receiving many awards for her work. I would like to experience how she fell about this. Can you imagine Madonna imposing her style all over the world? Was she aware of what she was creating? She was becoming “The Queen of the Pop Music”.
ReplyDeleteEasy! I would switch places with my cat. Every single morning when I get up for work, I roll out of bed tired and cold. Then, I look over and there is my cat- sleeping in her warm bed with no worries in the world. She has unlimited food, occasionally gets the good stuff (canned food), and has no responsibilities. She gets to sunbathe every day and gets tons of love and attention. It is the most plush and relaxing life there is. No thoughts/stress of having to be successful or do well in school, just simply enjoying life. Not sure how that could get any better than that.
ReplyDeleteI am always jealous of my cats! All they do is nap and eat. That is the life.
DeleteBlair,
Deletevery smart, being a cat means less responsibilities which means no worries and happy life! Great choice
Yes, I said I would like to come back on my next life as a fish. The ones in my house just stay there, floating, swimming, eating.... and floating again.
DeleteI agree. I get so jealous as I get out of bed, get ready, and walk out of my house while my dog is still sleeping soundly in her bed. She gets to do this all day while I have to go to school and work.
DeleteCats, and pets, are quite care free. I wouldn't mind having that sort of life.
DeleteHi Blair,
DeleteDon't you hate having to get up and your cat is so comfy sleeping? I would also choose to be a cat that is in a place where love is in the air and that they are given many attentions. Being a cat is a good choice because they have nothing to worry about.
If I could be anyone in the world it would be Andrew Carnegie. He was a brilliant industrialist of the steel industry giving away 90% of his fortune to charity. In todays time it's about $80 billion that he gave away. I feel that he must have been very pleased with himself after doing so. I think it would be cool to have this feeling, knowing that your hard earned money is going to great causes and charities.
ReplyDeleteWow that is awesome 90% is a lot and I am sure that he feels very proud of himself. When I help out someone in need it makes me feel happy to make someone else day great.
DeleteThat is awesome!
DeleteThank you for sharing Jason, I did not know that.
If I could switch places with someone for an entire year, I would choose Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy. Laugh all you want, but to be able to skip over a decade of schooling and be an amazing general surgeon (even if she is fictional) sounds pretty great to me. I would hope I could keep her mind because I wouldn’t want to go into that situation without any knowledge of surgery. I would get to perform difficult and challenging surgeries on a daily basis, have an endless amount of resources at my disposal, and get to save lives. Then, of course, there is the prestige that comes with the Grey name. I would be a leading surgeon in my field of general surgery and have many published works. All in all, it sounds pretty great to be Meredith Grey, except for all the tragic events that happen to her…
ReplyDeleteHi Kimberly, it would be totally awesome to skip schooling, and be a natural at some type of job!
DeleteLove this show! Im on season 11 on Netflix so im a little behind but i completely admire Meredith and her determination to help everyone despite her own problems
DeleteThat's a creative and smart choice. I've only watched 3 seasons of Grey's Anatomy, but I would love to be Meredith Grey as well. She's smart, pretty, and has a romantic life with Dr. Shepard! It would be amazing to skip schooling and be an amazing surgeon like Meredith Grey.
DeleteIf I had the chance to switch places with someone, I think I would choose to be Taya Smith. She is the main leader from Hillsong United. Her voice is amazing! I love to sing, so it would be awesome too be in someone's shoes who knows how to make their voice hit each note perfectly. All her songs are based on God and she wants to encourage people with her music to have a bigger and deeper relationship with God. That is what is amazing about her too. She gets to travel all over the world and play her music, so it sounds pretty exciting to travel around the world too. She is an inspiration to many believers and her music encourages them too. I would also like to be that inspiration and be able to sing like her.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of her but I think it is awesome you look up to her not only for singing, but religiously. I would love to travel the world also, especially Europe!
DeleteIt is an awesome group and Europe sounds nice!
DeleteIf I could switch places for a year I would switch places with my little sister. The joy of being a child with no responsibilities would be great! My little sister is beautiful and has my whole family to spoil her. She is an All-star cheerleader and she gets to travel alot. I am kind of jealous because her team is going on an all expense week trip to Disney world for a competition. She literally has the easiest life every. She is also a straight A student. I would love to be a kid again so i can be carefree and have other people take care of me because paying bills is not fun,
ReplyDeleteLife is not always easy. The things that we come across always teaches us something, teaches us something that will make us stronger in hard times.
DeleteThis is a hard choice because I have never really thought about living a life except mine. I know one thing I would love is to not have to worry about money and being famous doesn't sound too bad either. I think the person I would like to be for a year is Angelina Jolie. I admire her humanitarian work so much, and to have my own foundation would be awesome! For that year I would continue all her charity work and travel as much as I could. I love learning about other cultures, so the first-hand experience would be a dream. I feel so passionate about helping people who do not have the basic luxuries we take for granted. The first place millions of my dollars would go is the Superintendent of Schools Migrant Program, not only because I worked there but because I would love to help all of the awesome migrant families in this county. Angelina Jolie really is life goals, and being her for a year seems like the most valuable choice to me.
ReplyDeleteJade that is a great choice and you would do some amazing things and that is cool. I like the idea that you would help migrant programs.
DeleteDoing philanthropy work would be very cool.
DeleteAngelina Jolie would be perfect. The best year to me would be when they made the movie "Maleficent." I think every one had fun during the production.
DeleteIf I could switch places with anyone in the world, I would want to switch places with my baby sister. I envy that she does not have to worry about education, career, and familial responsibilities. If I were her, I would be satisfied drinking milk every day and not eat too much junk food like I do these days. I could get a full eight hours of sleep. On top of that, I could sleep and wake up whenever I please. I could wake up, go out to the backyard, and spend endless hours on the slide. I could demand for yogurt or snacks every once in a while. I could spend hours on my iPad watching YouTube or playing Roblox or Minecraft. I could cry and get what I want a few minutes afterward. I could ask to be carried if my legs are tired. I wouldn’t have to drive – I hate driving. I could shamelessly pick my nose, drool all over the pillow, or wake up with my hair all wild and still be called cute. Clothes are not a necessity since it is getting hot and no one cares if you are a baby running around naked. Life as my baby sister would be so carefree and relaxing and joyful. I want that.
ReplyDeleteGood idea to switch with a baby. Those were the good days!
DeleteThat's a smart choice. I agree it would be great to live a life as a young child. It would feel great to not have any worries and just live life day by day. Although, I would like to live this with knowing what I know now.
DeleteOh my Yang, that is an awesome choice. I am so happy that I was not drinking while reading this; it would have ended up on my screen. The joys of being young and innocent.
DeleteGlad to hear you guys agree with me! Haha.
DeleteOf course we do! :)
DeleteThis blog entry is a fun one. If I could be someone or live in someones shoes for one year, and be that person for certain time, I would choose Adolf Hitler. I mean I do not want to do horrible things that he has done, but I want to know what was he thinking. Not only that I mean Hitler is one of the best or the best public speaker. He manage to get his whole country to support him with his plan. I want to experience the feeling of getting all the people to support you, even though you think its a bad idea. I mean he was a very respected man in his country. Who wouldn't like that? I mean Hitler was helped by a Jewish Doctor who didn't charge him for the care that he receive. His family couldn't afford medical treatment so this JEWISH doctor helped him out. I just see and Irony where he killed so many Jewish people, yet one of the person that saved his life is a Jew. So I just want to be him for a year and find out, what the heck was he thinking.
ReplyDeleteInteresting... it's hard to find others that find Hitler fascinating(?). When I was younger, my father would take us to the Beale Library. For whatever reason, I became super interested in WWII and Hitler (so much so that a librarian talked to my dad). But, what sparked that interest was how he was able to get a entire nation to stand behind him and allow for the slaughter of millions of humans. I mean, I do not praise his actions by any mean, but he was a brilliant guy; barbaric and cunning, but brilliant.
DeleteHi John,
DeleteWhen I began to read your response I was a little taken back...who would ever want to be a murderous dictator? However, as I continued to read, I see your point, and I agree that it would be interesting to find out what Hitler was thinking! My friend is currently enrolled in a Holocaust class at CSUB, and we often talk about what kind of mindset it would take to get people to do such awful things! Kind of scary, the concept of mob mentality. Interesting share, thank you!
I agree with Nikki. I was also shocked when you said Hitler, but now I understand why. I would also like to know why did he kill the Jews because one of them helped him out.
DeleteIf I could switch places with someone in the world of fact or fiction, I would have to choose Nick Vujicic. He is a man with no limbs who teaches people how to get up and live life to the fullest regardless of their circumstances. He was born with a rare Tetra-Amelia syndrome. Nick is limbless, missing both arms at shoulder level, and having only one small foot with two toes protruding from his left thigh, and he surfs and is happy as can be. This man is an inspiration and this is why I would switch places with him because he's so happy and does not let his disability bring him down. You do not meet a lot of people like Nick. Nick graduated from college and tries to do everything that a normal person can do and you could say that is happy just the way he is. I know I would like to have his motivation and courage that he has. I saw him speak at one of our church services and it was just amazing to see this man up their and pour his heart out about his life and what he had to go through and at the end he found happiness. Of course he had rough patches but still ended up on top.
ReplyDeleteThat man is truly amazing.
DeleteI completely agree with you Claudia!
DeleteNick is such an inspiration to many of us. Some times we are so caught up complaining about the smallest things, and this man has the most positive attitude towards life despite the circumstances.
Being a sloth sounds relaxing. No worries in the world and no rush to anything. Basically taking your time and doing what you need to do on your own time. That actually sounds pretty nice....good pick Jose.
ReplyDeleteIf I could be anyone else for one year, I would be Han Solo. Being Han Solo for one year would be the most epic thing imaginable. Think of all the wonders that space has to offer and the different planets available to explore! I would be able to soar the galaxies while travelling with my big hairy friend and experience something like never before. I think, being in his shoes would require a large amount of responsibility. Since I am a smuggler, I would need to be good at monitoring my finances and stack my ends. In addition, my Millennium Falcon would require a certain amount of fuel and maintenance. During my duties as a smuggler, I am sure that I will encounter trouble, legally and illegally. This would mean I will constantly be on the run and I should constantly anticipate danger. Although this may all sound intimidating, I would look on the bright side and see the beauties within the stars. Being able to hyper drive through space on a starship equipped with laser beam turrets and missiles, would be the coolest thing ever. I would also be able to meet a lot of new creatures and beings from traveling through different planets. I could develop a strong network and trade goods and probably become well off financially. Space has an infinite amount of wonder and I think being capable of travelling through it would be really exciting.
ReplyDeleteNich, that sounds fun. So, because I had not idea who Han Solo was, and because I can perceive the enthusiasm you had put on your post, I went and google it. Yes, you are right, it could be fun for a year!
DeleteIf I was able to be anyone for a year it would be Selena Quintanilla. Selena was one of my idols since I was a little girl. I always wanted to be just like her. She truly inspired me with her amazing music. Selena had opened the door for many female latin singers. I feel like Selena she was not just talented but she also had a very beautiful personality, a personality which would be loved by many of her fans including myself, a personality that would be deeply missed after her untimely death. Even though I was just a preschooler when she was alive, I still consider her my ultimate favorite musician. So one of the reasons I would love to experience being in her shoes is because Ive always wanted to know how it would feel be a great singer like her. Also, being able to perform in front of thousands of fans I'm sure would be such incredible feeling to experience.
ReplyDeleteMy kids love Selena. Yea, her songs are great. She was a good dancer. Would you rather be Selena at the beginning, or towards the end of her career?
DeleteHey Ariana
DeleteMy sister loves Selena. I agree with you that being able to perform in from of thousands of fans would be an amazing experience because it is something I know would be difficult for me. I am always nervous when we have presentations in class I can't imagine being around a thousands of fans. Also, it would be nice to have a beautiful voice and be able to express your feelings when singing. I think singing is the most amazing feeling to bad I suck at it.
Hi Jose, sloth sure seem like they have an easy life!
ReplyDeleteIf I had the opportunity to switch places with anyone in the world for a year, I would have to choose Warren Buffett: one of the most successful investors in the world. I have always admire his entrepreneurial spirit and his frugality. Even though he is considered the third richest man in the world, he still lives in the very first house he purchased. I would love to learn his discipline in business as well as how he turned his mistakes into successful stories. Warren Buffett is a personal hero of mine. Just the thought of being able to be in his shoes for a year brings a smile to my face. I recently learned that still to this day, he eats the same thing every morning and does not spend more than $3.17 for breakfast. If the market is not doing well, he won't go for the most "expensive" meal, which is a bacon, cheese, and egg biscuit from McDonald's. To me, that is amazing discipline, and It would be a life changing experience to switch places with this great entrepreneur.
ReplyDeleteViridiana, I thought about being one of the richest person but then I thought about what if they don't have dignity or are mean people. I think yours is a great choice; I will have look into him sounds like an amazing person.
DeleteI love people like him who have all the money they want, but don't show it off. I hate seeing certain celebrities showing off their expensive cars and homes. I feel that they should be more humble and do good for our world.
DeleteWow, I don't know who he is but his discipline strategy is amazing. I mean I know of people, who aren't rich, yet they just can't hold on to money. It's like it's burning a hole in their pocket...lol.
Delete- Great choice! He is a very humble, wise and intelligent man.
DeleteI thought about his questions over and over and I found it so difficult to answer. I came up with Cesar Chavez. I would like to be him because he never gave up on the field workers. It takes a lot of courage to do what he did. Field work is already hard as it is imagine how it was before Cesar Chavez. He wasn't the richest person but that's doesn't matter in life if you don't have dignity. I hold a lot of respect for him because he thought about those people who break their backs for not much money. I chose him because there are not many people who are willing to step up for us minorities or those working in low paying jobs. Those people are the ones who try so hard to make a living but still cant move up the social ladder. The elites make the laws which makes it hard for the lower class to move up. That's why I chose Cesar Chavez because I would like to have his courage to make a difference in the lives of people and encourage others to join a cause; especially now with all the laws trump wants to implement.
ReplyDeleteHi Nelda, this is an awesome choice. It says great things about your person. My parents have been field workers, so I understand you perfectly. These people do need someone with that power to help them speak out and especially to be heard.
DeleteNeida, you chose a great one. I agree, field work is very hard and you're right he wasn't the richest.
DeleteLiving near the beach with unlimited food sounds great! Just being able to relax and not worry about bills or life's stress would be amazing.

ReplyDeleteIf I could be anyone in the world I would be a Veterinarian who lives in my hometown. She is very prestigious and being a vet is my dream job. I love helping animals and this is what she gets to do on a daily basis. She owns her own veterinary office and has taken care of all my pets. She even saved one of my dogs who had a digestion issue that could have killed her. This vet also runs a low cost spay/neuter clinic that has helped reduce the amount of cats and dogs in our town. The cost is only $10 for the clinic, when it's normally around $100. She truly cares about animals and tries to help them in any way she can. She has provided me with the cheapest care for my animals when I couldn't afford it. This is why I would choose her because I want to help animals in the same ways she does. It would also be nice to skip the harsh and stressful schooling it takes to become a Veterinarian. If I were to be her, I wouldn't have to go to school and I would immediately go to doing my dream job.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very good dream to have, veterinarians are very important. Our vet helped saved our family dog when she had developed histiocytosis.
DeleteI totally understand you Brianna. My dream was to become a vet, but unfortunately the schooling that was needed was what changed my career path. I wish we could have vets like this everywhere because the clinic visit alone is very expensive. Unfortunately, I think because people can't continue to afford for their animals' care is why they have to get rid of them.
DeleteI'm glad to hear your dog is healthy now, Sean
DeleteThe schooling is what has changed my career path as well. And I agree, vet care is very expensive and a lot of animals don't receive the correct care or they're euthanized when they become ill because their owners can't afford their healthcare
DeleteIf I could be anyone for a year it would be Monkey D. Luffy. He is a fictional character from the anime / manga One Piece. My reason for choosing Luffy is simple, everyday of his life is an adventure. He is a captain of a pirate ship. He is always sailing the sea with his fellow comrades and friends. What I enjoy about the character is anywhere he goes he makes friends. He doesn't care about money or possessions, rather adventure and friendship. I would enjoy traveling to all the islands and destinations his ship sails to. There would be an immense amount of new food to try and fulfill my insatiable appetite.
ReplyDeleteHi Sean,
DeleteMy boyfriend is totally into Monkey D Luffy. He loves it specifically for all the adventures they go on. I imagine it would be pretty exciting to switch places with him, considering his adventurous lifestyle.
This was not too difficult of a decision for me. I just thought of where I would like to live and the answer was right there in front of me. I would switch places with Bilbo Baggins of course. When I first saw the movie, I could not believe that they managed to capture something so similar to the design plan for my next house, right down to building into the hillside. The Shire is a wonderful place to call home: with the beautiful mountain ranges, fertile lands for growing crops, and feeding just enough livestock to support the small community. Then throw in all the adventures, oh the adventures. While they are fiction, in wide-open spaces, such as the Shire, there are plenty of adventures to be had. Life in the big cities is all about trying to get ahead, but we often miss out on the “truth” of life. Bilbo was happy to have his house, plenty of food, and time to sit around in his beautiful surroundings and enjoy his pipe. Now I would not need the pipe, but give me the rest any day and you will see a content man. Last couple of things, but not the least; imagine not having to buy or wear cumbersome shoes again. What a joy that would be, and my precious, “MY PRECIOUS.”
ReplyDeleteAlbion,
DeleteYou wrote a nice discussion post. This is because you clearly stated your purpose of being like Bilbo Baggins. You also gave a lot of useful descriptions, based on Bilbo’s home (the Shire). I also like the Shire, because it contains beautiful mountains, rich soil, and livestock. This reminds me of Ireland and England, which are two of my favorite places on the world map. You also described why Bilbo liked his home, and how content he was. This is why your post is wonderful. I like to read a lot of genre books, and watch a lot of genre movies as well. In my blog post, I picked a lot of people I would like to be like. I like cool, cloudy, green, and city-like sceneries. I hope to read books like St. George and the Dragon and Lord of the Rings, in the future. I hope you enjoy your future discussions.
Roshaan S.
Albion, excellent choice. I have always admired Bilbo Baggins and the life he lives in the Shire. Hopefully Gandolf does not unexpectedly drop by during your stay in Bag End.
DeleteHey Sean, Gandalf would be welcomed if he came with his wiz-poppers, and brought with him the dwarfs, with food for everyone. They know how to hang!
DeleteThanks Roshaan, I started reading Dwarfs, but I have to put that on hold with all the other reading I have to do for all my classes. Hope you enjoy your reads also!
DeleteThis question is somewhat difficult for me to answer. There are quite an infinite number of candidates to choose from, and whether or not I adopt their skills nor their influence isn't exactly guaranteed. If I were to be real, honestly I'd love to switch with no one, since I do enjoy my life as is. Perhaps someone younger if I really had to be given the option. To see the world through the eyes of an infant, especially at this current time, would probably be quite interesting. However, there are also plenty of things I would not enjoy if I was born again. Would I be able to enjoy my favorite games at the moment before it all fades from popularity? Would I really be able to abandon my friends in exchange for some new ones? It's all something that's hard for me to think of, but it would give me a chance to start my life over. This is given that I know all of the knowledge I've had before. Surely I'd be allowed to do some hobbies I've been disallowed to do as a child, but if not, at least I could do some stuff I regret not doing.

ReplyDeleteThis is now my fourth attempt at writing my response. I have a bad habit of over-thinking EVERYTHING! And hypothetical situations are my nemesis because I always have more questions than a single definite answer - and this is definitely no different. :D What nags at me the most is will there be a butterfly effect by the actions I commit, or fail to commit, during this year? If the answer is no, then I will be completely selfish and say I would love to be Mickey Mouse. I mean, come on, who wouldn't want to spend all day and all night at Disneyland for an entire year! With the exception of the crowds (and sometimes heat), I love that place. I love the sights, the smells, the adventure and with the return of the Electrical Parade it'd be pure paradise. Even if you've ridden Pirates of the Caribbean a thousand times before, it's always as exciting as the first time. Granted there's a great chance I'd walk out 500 lbs heavier from eating Tigger Tails everyday, but who cares! It's Disneyland - The Happiest Place on Earth.
ReplyDeleteHi Theresa,
DeleteI love that idea! Being Mickey Mouse would be so much fun, just to bring so much joy to everyone around you, and get to live at Disneyland! Despite the heat and the crowds, Mickey Mouse makes so many people happy just by being him! Great idea!
Completely agree, Nikki! I know I still light up when I see him. :)
DeleteHi Theresa,
DeleteBeing Mickey Mouse would be pretty exciting! Especially since tou would be at Disneyland all the time, how fun. All the churros you can eat! lol
If I could choose to be anyone in the world, I would choose to be Bob Ross! He was an artist for the PBS, and would teach this painting show called "The Joy of Painting". He was a nature and animal lover, and would often bring his pet squirrels on the show with him. I grew up watching his shows, and just really love his attitude towards life. I think it would be neat to be Bob Ross, because he inspires people to paint without judgement, and to always look on the bright side. I feel like there can be so much negativity and mindlessness in the world today; everyone is consumed with work, social media, politics etc. Bob Ross had a way of taking people away from that, and helped so many people enjoy the simple things in life through his painting.
ReplyDeleteIf I could switch places with anyone for a year I would want to switch places with Mother Teresa. I believe that the work she did was noble and humbling. I've always desired to have a heart so focused on helping others that I would give up everything to help. It's hard wanting to give things up when you're so comfortable, but she did. She gave up everything and chose to live amongst the poor and minister to them. I think loving a year in her shoes would be so humbling and remind me that people are truthfully more important than things. I love to help people, and I admire the work that she did and the thousands of lives that she changed and influenced. It would pull me out of my comfort zone and help me to realize the needs that other people have and what I can really do to help them. I wish I were as courageous, noble, and brace as Mother Teresa was. I can only hope to help people in my own way and figure out my calling to serve others and to serve God. Not only did she have a servant's heart, she had a deep relationship with God. I have a book full of quotes that she spoke, and she experienced God at a deep and personal level. I would also love to experience that. I have a personal relationship with God already, but I'm sure living amongst the poor would further that relationship. I just admire her values and character!

DeleteLiving* a year in her shoes; and courageous, noble, and brave*
DeleteLove your choice! I actually considered picking her as well.
DeleteIf I had the option to choose to live as something/someone other than myself for one year I would choose to be my Labrador retriever. I've had this dog since I was just eight years old and he is the best dog. He has always been taken care of, always had a friend whether it be a cat or a dog he didn't mind, he was was always given love and I feel he's had a happy life. I would enjoy being a dog because they don't require much to be happy, they just hang out all day, eat, get pet or rubbed and every once in a while if they get lucky they get good human food. A dogs lifestyle is so laid back and relaxing I would enjoy doing that day in and day out. Another reason I would want to live as my dog is because he is now getting very old and looks to be in pain too often. It hurts to see my dog, who has been in the family for almost 13 years now, in the pain that he's in.
ReplyDeleteThe life of a dog has always been interesting. To know if they do have lives with other dogs, and what they really think of humans. Switching lives with your own dog is even better giving you a better representation of what it really is like.
DeleteI'm sorry to hear about your dog being in pain Karissa :( pets are family and I agree it would be nice to switch places with them.
DeleteThis is a difficult question. I can’t pick one character over the others. If I could choose which people I would be, I would be the following people: from Harry Potter (Draco Malfoy, Pansy Parkinson, Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Astoria Greengrass, Cedric Diggory, and Harry Potter), from Vampire Diaries (Nora Hildegard), from Hollywood (Jerry Seinfeld, Morey Amsterdam, Ray Romano, Christopher Jacot, Cullen Landis, and Kevin James), and English Actors (Roland Manookian and Elijah Wood). I will now start with the Harry Potter people. I would choose to be Draco Malfoy, because he is funny, and he later transformed into a good person in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Draco Malfoy is also well dressed, and has a nice British accent. I can imitate him well. I would choose to be Pansy Parkinson, because Pansy is funny, similar to me in personality, and I can imitate her quotes. I would choose Crabbe and Goyle, because they showed a great sense of humor. They were well-dressed, and they laughed in unimaginable ways. I would pick Astoria, because she was funny. Another interesting fact is that these five characters were in my first favorite Hogwarts house (Slytherin). I would like to be like Cedric Diggory, because he was a kind, hardworking, honest, bold, and caring person. I would pick Harry Potter because he is curious, brave, honest, smart, loving, and kind. He always stuck with his friends, and used his facilities to fight the forces of evil. I prefer Nora Hildegard from Vampire Diairies, because she was a courageous and romantic person from season seven of this series. I can draw and impersonate these people in my spare time.
ReplyDeleteI would pick Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin James, and Ray Romano, because I am a 90’s fan. I always feel like laughing at their jokes. Their jokes relieve people’s stress and exhaustion. I picked Morey Amsterdam, because I am a 40’s fan. He played a funny guy in the Dick Van Dyke Show (Buddy). I also admire the way he dressed himself in a professional suit, while working with his colleagues on the Allen Brady Show. I picked Cullen Landis, because I am a 20’s fan. He acted as a serious character in Lights of New York, and other early 20th century films. I would like to be Christopher Jacot, because this Generation X guy was able to act in Mythquest (which was a scary Greek/Egyptian television series, based on mythical stories). I would pick Roland Manookian and Elijah Wood, because they acted well in British/American films. These same people played roles like Jack Dawkins and Charley Bates. Overall, I wrote this long post, because I like a lot of famous people. I could not pick one in particular, so I just picked my favorites.
P.S.: I admire the Harry Potter people, because they always wore ties and suits to school.
My goodness Roshaan, you have a lot of interesting picks here that makes me want to ask you a whole bunch of questions, but I will refrain as we don't really know each other. Your underlying theme, in any case, seems to be well-dressed people and comedy.
DeleteI have tried to write this post many times, each with a different person in mind to be. After some thought, I think I would like to be Adele. There are many reasons why I chose Adele. First reason being she's obviously an amazing singer. It would be incredible to have a voice like she does. She also lives in England and I would love to experience living in another country. I've been lucky enough to visit England before and it is such a beautiful place. Along with experiencing living in another country, being Adele would allow me to travel to many other amazing places as well. I wouldn't have to worry about money either, so i'd be able to live a pretty amazing life. The only downfall I think would be the fame. People following you around all the time and not having much personal space could be an issue. However, I believe Adele has a good head on her shoulders. She doesn't take anything from anyone, and I feel even though she is super famous, she is still down to earth. I look up to her, so I think being her would be a fun experience.
ReplyDeleteI think Adele would be a great character to be too, her voice is amazing and her concerts are so down to Earth. Also having the experience to travel the world and having people look up to you is a plus and a platform that can serve for many good purposes.
DeleteBeing a sloth sounds fun.. they are quite a lazy animal, after all.
ReplyDeleteI'm dying from laughter, love this! Would definitely be a sloth too!
ReplyDeleteIf I was able to be any person for a year I would be Malala Yousafzai, she's a 19 year old activist who was shot in the head by the Taliban for pursing an education in Pakistan. Luckily, she survived, how badass is she. She encourages women to pursue an education and fights for what she believes in. After the shooting she continued to empower women to get an education, while doing so she was still a target. I would wish to be her because she is a very strong and brave young lady. Even after she was shot, she still stands for what she believes in which is super badass to me.
ReplyDeleteHi Zelina, Malala would be a great person to live as for a year. She is very courageous.
Delete- Malala is one of the most beautiful people alive. Her story inspires me to no end. Great pick Zelina :)
DeleteIf I could switch places with anyone in the world It would be someone in the future. I couldn’t be able to name that person right now but it would be someone in the year 2217. Someone that would also be the head of a big technology company. I would choose to be this person because I would like to see how much technology would advance in 200 years and also so that I could be rich. I have always been into technology and it would be great to see the advancements that can happen in 200 years. I can imagine the flying cars or maybe even being able to teleport from place to place. There could even be advances in medicine and lots of illnesses like cancer could be cured or we could live 100 plus years. Getting the chance to be rich would just be fun and I would like to spend money and not worry about it.
ReplyDeleteThat would be interesting. This would allow us to predict the future when your lives switch back. Also we would be able to possibly prevent some things from happening such as traumatic events and terrible issues around the world.
DeleteI didn't think about what would happen when I switched back. It would definitely help with preventing some events, like it does in the movies!
DeleteIf I could switch places with anyone in the world for one year I would switch places with a baby. I do not care if I am a baby in a wealthy or poor family as long as I am well loved and do not suffer hunger. In addition, I would love to have the most comfortable mattress in my crib. The reason I would choose to become ta baby is because babies do not have to worry about anything but sleep, eat, and release body waste. I would love to be a baby that is well loved by her parents and all family members. If I was baby I would love to be well hygiene and for my diaper to be change on time. I definitely would choose a baby because babies do not have to worry about bills, college tuitions, working, what they need to cook for the day or anything involving an adult life. I would value my sleeping time throughout that whole year because as an adult we do not have naps or enjoy lots of hours of sleep. Also, babies do not have to think things through and make decisions that can affect their lives in the future. Babies are just at home looking cute and waiting for someone to carry them. I love the fact that if I get annoyed of people carrying me I can cry until I am set wherever I am comfortable. Before even having this journal question, I have asked myself if I could decide what age I would want to be, my answer was a newborn baby.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post, because at this moment I am so sleep deprived from having a baby sometimes I wish I could sleep like him. It is almost like a paradox, the baby sleeps most of the day, yet the parent is the one sleep deprived.
DeleteBaby's don't have any problems or responsibilities. I would totally love to be a baby again too!
DeleteHi Denise,
DeleteBeing a baby would be great because of all the responsibilities we do not have. I'm not sure about the part of not being able to remember anything, but still a cool idea!
Great choice and babies are cute too!
DeleteIf I could choose to be anyone in the world for one year I would choose to be Michael Jordon! Michael Jordon was, and is, the best single player to ever play the game of basketball. He showed what it means it means to not only be a great player, but what it means it be a great person. I feel as though too often a lot of people give up on their dreams before they have the chance to shine. Michael showed at the time, even though many didn't believe in him, that he could do it besides the odds. I admire his handwork, perseverance, and dedication to be great. I think a lot of people believe in themselves, but it takes someone else to believe in them to make that dream, happen. This is why I would definitely choose to be Michael. He is a legend when it comes to the game of basketball!
ReplyDeleteNot a bad choice to choose to switch lives with. Being a person whom many look up to would be amazing. For years and decades to come he will always be remembered for the great player he was.
DeleteThere are virtually an infinite number of characters in which I could choose to switch my life with for a year. I honestly love the person I am because of the challenges that I've faced and have overcome on my own. The thought of switching lives with someone else fictional or non-fictional would occasionally comes across my mind. When I was younger I would want to be like the cartoons or super heroes that I watched. If I would have to choose a character it would be probably be Hermione from Harry Potter because she is my favorite character from the series. Hermione would be my choice because of the idea of using magic to alleviate the most simplistic yet tedious of tasks by a snap of a finger, or a swift movement of a wand. I would also use magic to teleport to places in order to save money and time or to simply fly around in a broomstick to avoid traffic and enjoy the view of the city. Another reason why I would choose Hermione is because she is a brilliant woman. I like the way she quickly analysis things in a given situation, and how she is able to make the right reasonable decision. I think having the power to do magic is an appealing characteristic since it can make life task more easy and simple by avoiding mundane daily tasks; therefore, Hermione would be my choice to swap lives for a year.
ReplyDeleteShe is a top choice, plus who wouldnt like to learn magic!
DeleteHermione is awesome! I would also love to have magic to do to daily tasks like cleaning lol
DeleteIf I could switch places with someone for a whole year, it would have to be Jessica Jones. When I recently watched the Marvel Netflix show, I fell in love with the badass character. Jessica Jones is nowhere near being a perfect person but she does try to do the right thing (most of the time). I choose to become Jessica Jones because she is a very strong person mentally and physically. It would be cool to be super strong and be able to fly as she does. Her character says what she wants and she doesn’t take anything less than that; that’s what I admire about her. Jessica Jones faced hardship like many of us, so it makes her character more relatable.
ReplyDeleteHello Crystal,
DeleteThis is a great choice, she sounds like a great character. I haven't watched the show but now I will have to keep it in mind.
This question was probably the hardest to answer. Of course, the first person I thought of was superman, who wouldn’t want super powers. Although I remember watching smallvile when I was younger and saw the horror of him learning how to control his powers. Also, if I had to be him, I would still have to go to work, since he is a reporter. I thought about being a celebrity, but also have to deal with paparazzi and no privacy. It would be fun to be a character from a video game, but their stories, usually the interesting ones involve overwhelming obstacles, much like the ones we face today. If I had to be someone, anyone, I would want to be happy. People who make a difference are just that, people. Someone who doesn’t worry about money, bills, or worry about anything. I also thought of animal or even a mythical creature, but the paranoid feeling of being killed is worry some. I don’t really have an answer to this question. Maybe a person who can time travel to fix my mistakes and see what would happen to me later in life. Or Travel forward to see where my life is headed, so when the year is over I would have a better understanding of where I was headed in life.
ReplyDeleteStephanie you are so right about this question being difficult! I drew a blank myself and couldn't come up with much until I resorted to Google. What a great response though, someone who is happy. How nice would it be to not have the worry over bills, or money either? I would love to take a year off of those concerns.
DeleteAfter much contemplation, mostly because I drew a blank, I decided I would want to be Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter Series for a year if offered the chance. Yes, I had to google characters and historical figures just to get my brain rolling with ideas. But after reading a few key points about random people I decided upon Hermione. Why? Well, there are so many great reasons why I would want to be her. First and foremost being, who wouldn't want to go to Hogwarts?!? What an amazing world that would be. Aside from that, Hermoine's character traits speak to me and really are a testament to what I want for myself and my own daughter. She is a loyal friend, strong, courageous, persistent, and very smart. Her approach is different and unique and she doesn't ever feel the need to apologize for being herself. She is also different from the other characters because she comes from two muggle parents. I loved watching her in the movies and so does my daughter. Oh. and did I mention Hogwarts?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteJamie, you definitely chose a great one. You're right, who wouldn't want to go to Hogwarts
DeleteJamie, I actually saw a video recently saying that, for a limited time, they are going to open a school like Hogwarts. I think it's in London, I could be wrong. It's just for people who are 18 and older and they teach you different spells. I was reminded of it as I read your post.
DeleteNow I don't know if this counts, but I would like to be someone that can speak to and understand animals. It would have to be someone like Sherman Klump, from the Nutty Professor, or a Disney princess such as Snow White. My reason for this option is simple, I loooooooveeeeee animals :) This goes back to my childhood. When I was younger my parents owned horses, cows, and dogs in Mexico. I was that child that got up with my father at 4:00 a.m., got on our horses, and rode from our house to our ranch to help him out with the feeding, bathing, and either taking out the cows to the pasture areas or bringing them back in. So, I've always wondered what the animals would think or want to say because yes I spoke to them. Even now, I speak to my puppy and; likewise, every time I gaze into his eyes I wonder of what he's thinking. My boyfriend even finds it very surprising that I could immediately notice when something is wrong with him. However, for me it’s very easy because I notice that his eyes just don’t look at me the same way. Furthermore, I imagine my future home similar to that in Selena Quintanillas’, Tejano Singer, R.I.P+, wish. This dream home that she had and that I now wish for is of a ranch with a coral that contains different types of animals, and that they all get along perfectly. Of coarse, it would be more amazing if I could speak and understand them. How awesome would this be!!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I have also often wanted to be able to actually speak and understand animals, too. I tell friends all the time "I love animals more than I like people," lol. What a cool thing to wish. Oh, don't forget Dr. Doolittle, too!! I was living in Texas when Selena was killed. Before her passing, I'd be at work and she'd come on the radio some of the guys would be saying, "Selena es mi novia!!".
DeleteOh that's right Scott, how can I forget Dr. Doolittle. But you got the idea...lol.
DeleteAfter contemplating for so long, I decided if I could switch lives for a whole year, it would be with either my significant other or someone that is close to me (friends or parents). I decided on these people because I have always wondered what I look like in their eyes. It would be interesting to see how they see me and what they think. Everyone has different experiences, so it would also be interesting to know how they see the world and how their experiences have shaped them.
ReplyDeleteFor my parents, I would like to know of the encounters they have had via their memories. It would be intriguing to know how their life was back in Mexico and how their lives differ from it today. Also, since I do not talk to my parents much, I would like to know what they are thinking or how their jobs are or how their minds work.
For my significant other, I would like to know how his experiences shaped him. He lost his father at a young age and I know that must have been tough. Experiencing something that tragic can change you, but it is what we do afterwards that defines and makes us who we are.
If I could switch lives with anyone in the world, I would probably choose to be a famous NBA player. First of all because I really love the sport and second because I would love the money. I would choose to be Dwayne Wade, a Mvp basketball player for the Chicago Bulls. I would want to experience the fan access, and the sport itself. I would like to also experience the traveling, the luxury life, the jets, everything the sport comes with. I believe that the athlete life isn't easy but if you love the sport greatness comes with it. I choose Mr. Wade as my choice because I would want to experience the luxury and the NBA life. Since basketball is my favorite sport I would want to see what the life of a great Mvp player is like.
ReplyDeleteOmar the lifestyle of an NBA all-star would really fun to experience. An NBA player like Dwayne Wade has fame and notoriety for life. Dining at the best restaurants and traveling anywhere in the world are also great perks. Dwayne Wade is also a good role model as someone who gives back to his community and as a father.
DeleteThis question is not an easy question. I’ve tried to think of different people who I would like to be ranging from Mother Teresa to the flash. I want to be able to help people in the same way they do, but I knew fully that there was something missing in my choice. Well not Mother Teresa, she was a great choice and nothing was missing from her. I kept thinking and it finally hit me. If I had the decision to switch places with someone for a year, I would pick Pope Francis. Pope Francis is a man who has a lot of wisdom like most pope’s do. Something that stands out to me the most about him is that he is different from the other pope’s. He chose not to live in the Papal Apartments where all pope’s live to leave room for the homeless people and to live a normal life. He goes out of his way and does the most he can to help people who are in need and teach them what he knows. Every time I hear him speak, I learn something new and something very valuable. If I had the ability to be him, I would be the happiest person on Earth. I am not saying that I’m not happy, but he had God in his heart always and first. I would love to be able to help others the exact same way he does. I would like to have the wisdom he has and be able to keep learning new things as I continue with life.
ReplyDeleteIf I could switch places with anyone or anything in the world, I guess it would have to be Bubbles from the Power Puff Girls because I would like to be able to communicate with animals and also help save the world. It sounds silly but I couldn't find anybody else who would fit to who I would like to be, as in an actual human, so I decided to choose a fictional character. I also love that she's so close to her two sisters. Bubbles (the blue power puff girl) is defined by her innocence and gentle demeanor, but can be timid and sensitive. I find that I relate to her character most because of her personality and her love for animals and peace. Besides being able to communicate with animals, she could also understand and speak foreign languages which I would love to do. It may seem odd that I know this much information, but trust me I had to research it too (lol). So to sum it all up, I would switch places with Bubbles because I would love to be able to stand up for animals and people and communicate with them, and also have superhuman strength and speed.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that Bubbles could communicate with animals! Very interesting and creative choice
DeleteIf I could switch my life with someone either past or present it would probably be Travis Pastrana. He is someone that has done so many things in his life that many people dream of doing. As a professional stunt performer he is good in everything he does. From motocross to rally racing he's been in so many competitions as it comes natural to him. The reason that I would want to switch lives with him is because we have all tried taking up an action sport and it takes tons of practice to do the simplest thing. But for him its so natural so trying a new trick and racing rally cars would be a dream as it comes so easy. As his hobbies are some of things I enjoy it would make for a awesome year of switching lives.
ReplyDelete"At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can".
ReplyDeleteThe quote is from the strongest, passionate, most artistic, and boldest individual I know of: Frida Kahlo.
At 18 years Frida was on her local bus (or trolley), and an accident occurred which left her with a broken spinal column, a broken collarbone, broken ribs, a broken pelvis, eleven fractures in her right leg, a crushed and dislocated right foot, and a dislocated shoulder. In result, she was in a full body cast for months and had over 30 surgeries; this is only the beginning of her heart rendering story. She went on to live passionately and create beauty from her pain for the rest of her life. Not to mention the vile heartbreak from Diego Rivera and several miscarriages that left her lonesome (it is why she owned monkeys and dogs to cope with the loneliness, and why they are included in some of her art).
Each painting, each famous quote, reflect her agony and wisdom. Frida somehow managed to hold her chin up, wear her vibrant dresses and jewellery, pick up that brush and paint life away. She inspires me to no end and it is why I would love to be Frida Kahlo for a year, so that I too can inspire others and to feel that unique immense passion she felt about life and art. What a badass woman she was.
Also, for anyone who needs this:
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK (8255)...you are enough, and as Frida said, "At the end, we can endure much more than we think we can".
If I could switch places with somebody life from the past, it would have to be this comic superhero called Static Shock. He was a African America high school student who by accident got these electrical powers and over time he had to hide his identity from his dad and friends while at the same saving his city from criminals. I would want to be that type of superhero because he was still facing real life issues so with his superpowers he was able to do things for himself and others that he wouldn't have been to do beforehand. It's very inspiring. I loved that show.
ReplyDeleteIf I could switch places with anyone, I would love to switch lives with Jane Austen. She was a very famous English author and I just find her a most amazing author. That time period she lived in has always intrigued me especially living in a place such as England. Jane Austen's books are still talked of today and people are constantly making her books into movies. She is one of my favorite authors and I would love to see the kind of life she lived
ReplyDeleteIf I could switch places with any person for a year it would be Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter Series. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and wish so deeply that I could attend Hogwarts. Learning magic and being in a whimsical environment would be the ultimate 1 year vacation. I know that I would not be helping save the world or bettering anyone else but myself, but I think it would just be so fun. I would be able to help lead the story line along in whatever year of school I attended because I know the plot so well to every book. Going on adventures and getting to live one of my favorite stories would be a dream come true.
